What is Open Enrollment?
It's the one and only time of year when anyone can enroll in health insurance. During Open Enrollment, you have the opportunity to sign up for a new plan, make changes to your existing coverage, or explore your options for the very first time. Just make sure you finalize your coverage before key deadlines come around.
Dates and Deadlines
In most states, December 15 is the deadline for coverage starting January 1. Be sure to check your home state's deadlines in our enrollment guide, since each state looks a little bit different.
Most states have a second deadline in January, but if you finalize your coverage after December 15, your coverage will generally not start until February 1. And of course, if you miss the end of Open Enrollment, you may not be able to enroll in health insurance for a full year, unless you have a big life event (like getting married or having a baby).
Picking your Plan
We know how overwhelming it can be to sift through hundreds of plans. That's why we offer personalized recommendations based on your unique needs. All the plans we offer are ACA-compliant, which means they cover essential health benefits like preventive care, and are available even to folks with pre-existing conditions.
Applying and Enrollment
Once you've picked your plan, we'll still here to help you finalize your enrollment. As an official partner to HealthCare.gov, you can apply directly through Catch. Your application will help us figure out what savings you might be eligible for. We'll make sure all your discounts get automatically applied as you shop. Those savings really add up: 4 out of 5 consumers pay less than $10/month for their health insurance.
Paying your Premium
Once you've enrolled, don't forget to pay your first month's premium directly to your carrier before the first day your coverage begins! If you forget to make your first payment, your coverage will not become active, and you may not be eligible to re-enroll until next year.
